Biological Activity
OTX008 (Calixarene 0118, PTX008) is a galectin-1 inhibitor used in tumor-cell signaling and viability research. OTX008 reduced viability in a dose- and time-dependent manner in both cancer and normal-cell models.
In Vitro
| Endpoint | Model / conditions / source | Reported result |
|---|---|---|
| Cell viability | Three oral squamous-cell carcinoma lines and normal oral keratinocytes; 12.5, 25, 50 or 100 µg/mL. [1] | OTX008 reduced viability in a dose- and time-dependent manner in both cancer and normal-cell models. |
| Transcriptional endpoint | 25 µg/mL for 48 h; qRT-PCR, n=3. [1] | The study assessed FOS-related transcriptional changes after treatment. |
In Vivo
No compound-specific animal efficacy result is established by the sources summarized here.
Compound and Evidence Context
| Endpoint | Model / conditions / source | Reported result |
|---|---|---|
| Units and selectivity | Mass-concentration assays. [1] | Values are reported in µg/mL rather than being silently converted to µM. Normal-keratinocyte effects limit claims of cancer-specific cytotoxicity. |
Interpretation
This study does not demonstrate cancer-cell-exclusive toxicity; normal-cell responses should be considered.
